Original Supreme Mary Wilson has the magical talent that makes her a success whether she's teamed as three or solo center stage.
But add to her singing ability and stage showmanship the bonus of the legendary Four Tops for a two-hour stage concert and the result is sensational.
Chicagoland area choirs are getting the chance of a lifetime when they perform along-side Wilson for Mary Wilson's Holiday Spectacular featuring special guests The Four Tops now at Harris Theater, 205 E. Randolph St. in Chicago until Jan. 5.
Seven Chicago choirs are performing throughout the limited engagement including Walt Whitman's Soul Children of Chicago, Shelly & Friends (members from Salem Baptist Church and Apostolic Pentecostal Church of Morgan Park), Calvin Bridges & Friends, Central Missionary Baptist Church Inspirational Choir, Dr. Issac Whittmon & the Greater Metropolitan Church, Dr. Alfred Wheeler & Blessed Music Ministry and Ramon Perry & the Ministry and Praise Chorale.
"It is my greatest joy to share music with others and by inviting some of Chicago's most celebrated choral groups to sing with me on stage, allows me the privilege to share that joy with them as well as the entire audience," said Wilson, who unveiled this new show for Chicago audiences on Monday.
"I love finding and meeting new talent wherever I am, and to see the abundance of talent that is bursting out of Chicago is just tremendous. Audiences are truly in for a musical treat this holiday season."
Under the leadership of Musical Director Diane Louie, the chosen choirs accompany Wilson, and her array of dazzling costume changes while The Four Tops join her in singing both holiday classics and Motown favorites including "My Favorite Things," "Joy to the World" and "Dancing in the Streets."
Mary Wilson's Holiday Spectacular takes audiences on a journey through some of the greatest Motown hits as well as Holiday classics. Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame and Vocal Group Hall of Fame recipient Wilson treats audiences to rousing renditions of some of the signature songs that catapulted the Supremes to become the most successful "girl group" in history. Favorites include "Stop In The Name of Love," "I Hear a Symphony," "Come See About Me," "Can't Hurry Love," "Back In Your Arms Again," "Someday We'll Be Together" and many others.
Abdul "Duke" Fakir, leads The Four Tops, celebrating his 60 years of performing as one of the original members of the legendary group, as they delivered the hits "Baby I Need Your Lovin'," "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)," "Reach Out, I’ll Be There," "Bernadette," "Ain't No Woman Like the One I Got" and "In The Still of the Night."
The concert, which runs without an intermission and is produced by Starvox Entertainment and Reach Out Entertainment, starts with The Four Tops for 45 minutes and then Wilson takes the stage for another 45 minutes. Then everyone shares the stage for a 30-minute finale segment, melding the Motown sound into favorite holiday classics including "White Christmas," "Silent Night," "Winter Wonderland," "My Favorite Things" and a special rendition of "Baby It’s Cold Outside" sung by Wilson and Fakir.
