Anyone who's a fan of songwriters Leiber and Stoller, won't want to miss "Smokey Joe's Cafe - The Songs of Leiber and Stoller."
The latest production of the musical revue is set to close Sunday at the Royal George Cabaret Theatre in Chicago. The show is a production of Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre. It recently received three non-equity Jeff Awards for Best Production - Revue, Best Director- Musical or Revue and Best Music Direction.
The fast-moving revue features a treasure trove of classic songs written by Leiber and Stoller, including Elvis' gems such as "Hound Dog," and "Jailhouse Rock," as well as catchy numbers "Poison Ivy," "On Broadway," 'Charlie Brown," and "Love Potion #9."
Among performers in this troupe of energetic singers is Vasily Deris, of Homer Glen, Ill. Deris' family members run area restaurants Theo's in Highland, Ted's Family Restaurant in Calumet City and Amore in Crown Point.
