The three short categories always are a crapshoot. In the Animated Short category, most think picking the Pixar nominee – and the legendary studio usually has a nominee – is a safe bet. But Pixar usually struggles here, probably because voters want to shine the light on lesser-seen entries. Still, Pixar's "Lou" probably is the best of the bunch this year. "The Silent Child" seems to have gotten the most buzz of the Live Action Shorts. And "Heroin(e)" comes from Netflix's documentary branch, which won the Documentary Short prize last year for "White Helmets" – but "Edith + Eddy" could pose a threat to it.
