Best Picture — Django Unchained: When it comes to response from real, live moviegoers, no Best Picture nominee this year beat out "Django Unchained," Quentin Tarantino's uber-violent and ultra-controversial nod to the spaghetti westerns of old. It's a middle-of-the-pack longshot to win Best Picture, but just about everything going on here works. The storyline is anything but predictable. The actors (Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, Don Johnson, Kerry Washington) all deliver some of the best performances of their careers thanks to Tarantino's masterful script. The camerawork is constantly engaging. The soundtrack is pure Tarantino madness, in a good way. If you can stomach the blood and the language — don't forget, this is a movie about the slave trade, after all, it's a piece of art.
