Best Picture — Zero Dark Thirty: "Zero Dark Thirty" fell back in the pack not long after it was released, joining "Argo" and "Lincoln" as a film with an up and down roller coaster ride when it comes to its chances of winning Best Picture. Before it had its wide release, this story of the capture of Osama bin Laden was already pre-ordained the Best Picture winner. But then people started to criticize the scenes of CIA agents torturing captured terrorists trying to get information that ultimately would lead to bin Laden. And the film also became a bit of a lightning rod for political party controversy when Republicans accused Democrats of giving the filmmakers access to classified information about the mission and its history. Regardless, it's a masterfully made military and political and historical thriller that needs to be seen.
