The Best Picture category may be a three-film race at this point, but there’s a frontrunner for Best Director within those three. Alfonso Cuaron took home the award from the Directors Guild of America for “Gravity,” and that put him in the driver’s seat to win the Oscar. The reality is, he’d probably been there all along. Steve McQueen (“12 Years a Slave”) and David O. Russell (“American Hustle”) probably are battling for second.
