"The Post" fizzled down the stretch, at least compared to expectations. That it's up for Best Picture with just one other nomination still is a fairly significant accomplishment. Meryl Streep, to little surprise, is up for Best Actress. But Tom Hanks didn't make the cut, nor did the screenplay or below-the-line contenders like Production Design. It's not going to take home any Oscars, but in the current era of "fake news," it's a hugely important film.
