With 13 total nominations, "The Shape of Water" is the year's top-honored film. It's a love story about a mute woman in the early 1960s who falls in love with a sea monster from South America that has been captured and brought to Baltimore for testing. Guillermo del Toro made a brilliant homage to old monster movies and managed to blend in the love story and a Cold War U.S. vs. Russia subplot, too. It's the odds-on favorite to win Best Picture, and should win Best Director for del Toro, too. But will it go home with the most trophies Sunday night?
