HAMMOND | Chicago rapper/actor Common is set to bring his show to Calumet Region fans this weekend.
Common will perform Saturday at the Hammond Civic Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. for the 21 and older concert.
"Mayor McDermott and the City of Hammond are ecstatic to be able to bring Common to the Hammond Civic Center. Common is a triple threat, starring in television and movies and authoring books along with continuously being a force in the hip hop and the R&B community," said Jill Gajewski of the Hammond Port Authority.
"Common has always been mentioned for concerts in Hammond. We were fortunate that everything worked out and we were able to host what is going to be a phenomenal evening," she said.
The rapper is no stranger to Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana.
"He is from the South Side of Chicago and through hard work was able to craft a successful career in the entertainment industry. He is a thoughtful rapper, choosing to speak against the violence among the youth of Chicago," she said.
Through his charity, Common Ground, the artist gives back to those in need, specifically underprivileged children, Gajewski said.
For tickets to the concert, which also features openers F. Stokes, Phranchyze, Oxymorrons and the South Side's CoJack, call (219) 853-6378 or search Hammond Civic Center on Facebook.
