Country singer Dylan Scott has been enjoying performing on his current tour with Justin Moore. Moore has been bringing his Hell On A Highway Tour to venues across the country.
Scott and Moore stop at Merrillville's Star Plaza Theatre on Saturday. It's one of the last shows to be held at the theater, which closes after the Oak Ridge Boys Christmas Show on Dec. 17.
"So far, it's been great. Justin is a nice guy," Scott said, adding the show is a high-energy, fun experience. "I'm having the best year of my life so far," he said.
This year has seen the country singer celebrating many accomplishments and joyous occasions.
He had his first number hit in July with "My Girl," and is garnering much attention for the tune "Hooked." In August, Scott released "Dylan Scott Deluxe Edition."
The Louisiana native is also looking forward to the birth of his first child next month. "We have a boy on the way in December," he said.
Scott said he enjoys touring with other artists because they get two different audiences, and it's a chance for him to be introduced to the other musician's fans. "You (can) gain fans," he said, adding his fan base is important.
"The fans are the most important part of all of this," Scott said.
As a songwriter, Scott said he's inspired by a variety of things.
"I also get a lot of inspiration from listening to other people's music," he said. "I'm trying to write as much as possible." Scott was inspired to cultivate a career in country music by his father who was a guitar player for various musicians such as Freddy Fender and Freddy Hart.
The singer released his first holiday EP titled "Merry Christmas," last month. "There are only five songs on it," Scott said, but the songs are special to him.
"The songs I did were songs I grew up listening to as a kid," he said. Tunes on the EP are "Winter Wonderland," "Jingle Bell Rock," "The Christmas Song," "White Christmas," and "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town."
The Christmas season and the tunes attached to it, Scott said, stir up many memories."For me, it takes me back to my childhood. It's a magic time for a kid."
