Fans are sure to have a fab time at the latest gathering of Moptop fans in Rosemont this year.

The Fest for Beatles Fans descends on the Hyatt Regency O'Hare on Friday and runs through Sunday.

A notable roster of special guests will star at the event this year in addition to shopping opportunities, meet and greets, a showing of Beatles video clips, films, discussions and more.

One of the highlights will be a concert and appearance by the "4 Wingmen," featuring former members of Paul McCartney's mega group Wings. Appearing will be Denny Laine, Laurence Juber, Denny Sewell and Steve Holley, all former Wings members.

Other guests will include Neil Innes, Leon Wilds, George's sister Louise Harrison, Mark Rivera and Mark Hudson. The Beatles' tribute band Liverpool will also perform.

Fab Four fans also can visit a Beatles marketplace filled with memorabilia of all types, various new items, books and much more. On the agenda are also lectures, a Battle of the Bands and other events.

Mark Lapidos, founder of the fest, which is now in its third decade, had the original idea for the fest as an event celebrating the Beatles 10th anniversary of their arrival in America. The idea came to him while he was eating ice cream in 1973. Wanting to get approval for the fest, which would celebrate the legendary foursome and feature special musical guests, speakers, and more, he later met with John Lennon to tell him about his idea.

He said Lennon said, "I'm all for it. I'm a Beatles fan, too."

FYI: The Fest for Beatles Fans will be Friday through Sunday at Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Rosemont. Hours are 5 to midnight Friday; noon to midnight Saturday and noon to 11 p.m. Sunday. Visit the website for prices and more information: thefest.com.
