Fans of "American Idol" will surely remember Phil Stacey's catchy and poignant performances on Season Six of the TV show in 2007.
Stacey, a singer whose musical concentration remains in country and Christian music, will bring his show to Lansing Saturday when he performs a benefit concert at Bethel Christian Reformed Church.
The show will benefit PASS, Network for Life, which has locations in Lansing, South Holland and Tinley Park.
"It's an organization that helps pregnant women look for solutions," said Stacey, who added he was happy to help the organization.
There is no charge for Stacey's concert for PASS (Pregnancy AID South Suburbs) but free will offerings will be accepted.
Stacey said he'll be performing a mix of tunes, including some of his country songs as well as spiritual, contemporary Christian music from his hit album "Into the Light."
"It'll be an acoustic type of show. I'll do songs and talk about my journey since "American Idol," ' he said. Stacey, who does about 130 to 170 tour dates a year, said he also does a lot of mission work, combining that with his musical performances.
"I always hope to come in with my music and bless the community," he said. "These are trying times and people want to hear that message of hope. I go around with a message of encouragement. In Christian lingo, I want to be a blessing."
Stacey said when he does his performances, he often combines that with a talk and conducts a question and answer time for people to ask him about his career and his stint on "American Idol."
Having a father who was a pastor, Stacey, a native of Harlan, Ky., grew up singing Christian music. He also spent time in the military.
About "Idol," Stacey said: "The most amazing thing 'American Idol' did for me is the exposure it gave me," he said, adding it was a platform for him to later spread his Christian values.
"And I had a blast on the show. It was a great experience," he said.
Stacey said his album "Into the Light," exudes messages of encouragement. "People are hurting these days. I want them to know they can get together and don't have to go it alone," he said.
The singer said he performs "from the heart" and never preaches in a way that would "offend" anyone who may not be a person of deep faith. He simply offers his experiences and shares his devotion to the Lord and how God can be a refuge in times of trouble.
In addition to his touring schedule and mission work, Stacey said he'll be working on some new music soon.
