The jazzy, spirited sounds of Kenny G's saxophone will grace the stage in Hammond next week.

The Grammy-winning saxophonist will perform his holiday-themed show at 8 p.m. Dec. 20 at The Venue at Hammond's Horseshoe Casino.

Kenny, a fan of performing in Northwest Indiana and the Chicagoland area, said he looks forward to bringing his show to the region. His holiday concert tour kicked off this week in North Carolina.

"I've been (to the area) so many times and played different venues. The Chicago area has always been a great supporter of instrumental music," the musician said.

During his current show, Kenny said he'll play some of his "old repertoire, some of our current songs and some Christmas music. So, it's a great variety."

When it comes to seasonal tunes, Kenny said they're a favorite.

'I love playing holiday melodies. They're great. People love them and know them. They're fun to play so it's a pleasure," he said.

The saxophonist's latest album, "Namaste,"which was released in the summer, was a joint project with Indian musician Rahul Sharma. While fans won't hear any of those tunes in the latest Kenny G show, the saxophonist said he looks forward to touring with Sharma in the future to perform the songs.

"Namaste," Kenny said, was a joy to work on.

"It was interesting, fun, and challenging and all the good things you're supposed to do if you're a musician. It was just a way to combine the two different sounds and see if something good came out of it and I thought it did," he said. "That's what you look for as a musician. You look for things that will stretch you a little bit but also things you will enjoy."

Kenny said one project he'd love to tackle would be writing the score for a film.

"I've always wanted to do a movie score which I haven't done yet. I'm always knocking on doors. One day it's going to happen so I hope it happens sooner than later," he said.

The saxophonist also said he'd like to do another Christmas album. He said he's in talks now with his friend/music producer David Foster about working on a holiday album.

"He just did Rod Stewart's Christmas album. And I said, 'C'mon, next year it's me.'"
