Retro music fans welcomed the energetic show performed by the Four Tops Jan. 11 at Silver Creek Event Center at Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo, Mich.
The legendary Motown group, which now stars original member Duke Fakir along with Lawrence Payton Jr., Ronnie McNeir and Spike Bonhart, entertained a full house of fans during a 90-minute show at the casino.
In addition to the Tops' biggest hits, the crowd was treated to a musical tribute to the three late original group members. During the middle of the concert, each member sang a special song for Four Tops legends Levi Stubbs, Renaldo "Obie" Benson and Lawrence Payton.
Lawrence Payton Jr., Payton's son, performed a poignant and emotional rendition of "Dance With My Father," the Richard Marx-penned tune made famous by Luther Vandross. Fakir sang "My Way" to honor his former Tops mates and changed the tune slightly making the lyrics "God turned it our way" about the Four Tops success in the music business.
The song roster starred all the major hits including "Baby I Need Your Loving," Bernadette," Walk Away Renee," "Keeper of the Castle," and "Reach Out, I'll be There."
Audience members got up and danced in front of the stage throughout the show and sang along enthusiastically with the closing number, "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)," clearly one of the Tops' most beloved tunes.
