The harmonizing country sounds of the Oak Ridge Boys will take the spotlight once again in the Region as the Grammy-winning group takes to the stage of the Stardust Event Center at Blue Chip Casino this weekend.
The Oak Ridge Boys will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at the casino in Michigan City.
In November, the Oaks, as they're affectionately called, performed at Star Plaza Theatre, which has been a tradition for years.
Richard Sterban, who performs bass vocals for the Oak Ridge Boys, and is the famed deep voice on "Elvira," said they enjoy performing in the Midwest and their annual treks to Northwest Indiana.
Sterban, along with Jon Bonsall, Duane Allen and William Lee Golden, make up the group which has garnered numerous music awards and other honors through the years.
This week is a celebratory one for the Oaks as Sterban said the group's first live album titled "Boys Night Out" was released April 15.
"Basically it's our greatest hits," Sterban said. "We recorded 11 of our shows and then listened to them all and picked the best songs from the shows."
The group, which is now on Cleopatra Records, said they and record company personnel got together and worked on choosing the right tunes for the new album.
"It's a great representation of us and and of an Oak Ridge Boys' live concert," he said. The Blue Chip Casino show will definitely include many of the hits heard on the album as well as other selections.
"The live album was something we've been wanting to do for a long time and it's something our fans have been asking for for a long time," Sterban said. "For one reason or another, something has always come up and we put it on the back burner. But we didn't want to put it on the back burner any longer."
Among songs on the new album are "You're the One," "American Made," "Love Song," "Bobbie Sue," "Elvira," and "Thank God For Kids."
Last year, the Oak Ridge Boys celebrated their 40th anniversary and currently maintain a packed touring schedule.
Sterban said the Oaks "average about 150 days a year on the road" and never tire of the live performances. They enjoy adding new offerings to their show frequently. "We like to keep the show fresh," he said.
About touring and performing, Sterban said "We keep doing it because we love doing it. We still look forward to getting up there on that stage and doing a show. We're still having fun."
Through the years, Sterban said he and the rest of the Oaks have remained "the best of friends."
"And we respect each other," he said.
Next up on the Oaks' project schedule is to work on a new gospel album, which Sterban said has "no definite timeframe yet."
