You might say the spirit of the King was in the house at The Bottom Lounge in Chicago on June 20.
Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of Elvis and Priscilla, brought her show to the Windy City and delivered a 90-minute concert starring songs from her new album "Storm and Grace."
She also brought her show to Deluxe in Indianapolis on June 21.
Donning a long black dress with a fuschia belt, Presley opened her set with "So Long" and proceeded with "Over Me" and "Weary," all from the new album.
"Storm and Grace," which was produced by T Bone Burnett, is filled with a mix of Americana sounds, from country/folk-tinged tunes to soulful bluesy selections.
In concert, Presley offered engaging renditions of the "Storm and Grace" numbers, performing to a fairly intimate crowd. Being a smaller venue, The Bottom Lounge offered a good view of Presley from virtually any location in the club, whether one was standing, as most people were, or sitting on folding chairs in the back.
Many of the songs had a somber sound which works well with Presley's alto vocal tones.
She occasionally talked to the audience. Early on, she told the crowd that she "pitched today at The White Sox game." Then she quickly quipped that maybe she should have said the Cubs. That afternoon, Presley had thrown out the first pitch at the Cubs-Sox game.
Among other songs on her playlist were the album's first single "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet;" "Lights Out," "Soften the Blows," and "Need to Go."
Presley's tour began June 14 at Gramercy Theatre in New York and is scheduled to end June 27 in San Diego. - Eloise Marie Valadez
