The holiday season was ushered in early courtesy of a fun-loving Stray Cat.
The Brian Setzer Orchestra presented its "Christmas Rocks Extravaganza" Nov. 23 at The Venue at Hammond's Horseshoe Casino and had audience members swing dancing in the aisles.
Former Stray Cats member and founder Setzer brought much cheer to the Venue with a show that not only had a great deal of spirit but a wonderful mix of rockabilly and swing-inspired tunes.
The set featured colorful Christmas decorations as the 18-member orchestra with Setzer on guitar rocked the house. He played a variety of guitars during the show - some appropriately sporting red and green hues.
Out of his gift bag of song, Setzer proved a swinging Santa as he and his powerful orchestra delivered goodies such as "Sleigh Ride," "Run Rudolph Run," Boogie Woogie Santa Claus," and "Jingle Bell Rock."
Among standout numbers were a playful "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch," featuring a costumed Grinch dancing across the stage, and "The Nutcracker Suite," which included the popular "Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy."
Setzer strayed a bit from the holiday selections as he performed the hit "Stray Cat Strut" and "In the Mood." In the holiday mix, the crowd was also treated to "Angels We Have Heard on High," "Dig That Crazy Santa Claus," and "Blue Christmas."
Fans cheered as Setzer and his Orchestra took their bows and wished happy holidays to all.
