Times 2010 Illinois All-Area Girls Soccer Team
Times 2010 All-Area Soccer Team
F -- Amy Carollo, Jr., Crete-Monee
Stats: 18 goals, 9 assists
Scouting report: Carollo still managed to put up impressive numbers despite missing nearly half the season with an injury. The Warriors forward stepped up when her team needed her the most, scoring eight of her goals in postseason play, including the lone tally in the sectional final loss to Joliet Catholic.
F -- Melanie Coderre, Sr., Homewood-Flossmoor
Stats: 27 goals, 19 assists
Scouting report: Coach Todd Elkei called Coderre "The face of Homewood-Flossmoor soccer." The 2010 Times Player of the Year, Coderre wrapped up her high school career in fine fashion, putting up 100 points against one of the state's toughest schedules, and was named all-state by the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association.
F -- Kelly Lewers, Jr., Homewood-Flossmoor
Stats: 23 goals, 7 assists
Scouting report: Coderre is the Vikings' No. 1, but Lewers is 1A. Lewers, last season's Times Player of the Year, was also named IHSSCA all-state. The potent combination of Lewers and Coderre made life miserable for opposing defenses all season long.
F -- Sarah Witvoet, Jr., Illiana Christian
Stats: 19 goals, 5 assists
Scouting report: After leading the Vikings in scoring as a sophomore, Witvoet picked up right where she left off this season. With her blazing speed, Witvoet consistently found herself behind the opposing team's back line, with nothing left to do but finish.
M -- Erinn Behn, Jr., Illiana Christian
Stats: 9 goals, 18 assists
Scouting report: Everything on the soccer field revolved around Behn for Illiana Christian. Whether it was stifling opponents' runs, finding Witvoet in the clear, or perfectly placing corner kicks and free kicks, Behn was a force to be reckoned with, and was named the Metro-Suburban Conference player of the year.
M -- Monica Chavolla, Jr., Bloom Twp.
Stats: 15 goals, 6 assists
Scouting report: A talented all-around player, Chavolla was dangerous with both her shot and her pass, but also hustled back to play solid defense. A team captain, the Blazing Trojans' leading scorer was named all-Southland Conference as well as IHSSCA all-sectional.
M -- Mia Cleary, Sr., Marian Catholic
Stats: 13 goals, 5 assists
Scouting report: Cleary was Marian Catholic's sparkplug in 2010. One of two Spartans named to the all-East Suburban Catholic Conference team, Cleary also received the Spartans' 110 percent award for her hard work.
M -- Ali Farkos, So., Homewood-Flossmoor
Stats: 5 goals, 11 assists
Scouting report: A strong two-way player from the midfield, Farkos was invaluable to Elkei's squad this season. Named all-SouthWest Suburban Conference as well as IHSSCA all-sectional, Farkos is just one of many examples of the bright future of H-F soccer.
M -- Maggie Heldt, Sr., Crete-Monee
Stats: 29 goals, 9 assists
Scouting report: Heldt was the leader of the Crete-Monee team that advanced all the way to a sectional final. Despite a change in position due to Carollo's injury, Heldt's level of play never dropped. An all-Southland Conference honoree, Heldt was able to use her height and strength to control games from the middle.
D -- Mariel Knot, Sr., Illiana Christian
Stats: 7 goals, 3 assists
Scouting report: Simply put, Knot was everywhere on defense for Illiana Christian. One of the Vikings' captains, Knot was a shutdown defender with a powerful leg to boot. Needless to say, she made life a lot easier for goalkeeper Lynn Herr.
D -- Guadalupe Mendez, Jr., Bloom Twp.
Stats: 3 goals, 2 assists
Scouting report: The Blazing Trojans' sweeper was in charge of all restarts and goal kicks, a testament to her power and skill. Mendez was named all-Southland Conference, as well as honorable mention all-sectional by the IHSSCA. A good ball-handler as well as passer, Mendez was the linchpin of the BT defense.
D -- Sarah Trump, Sr., Marian Catholic
Stats: 7 goals, 4 assists
Scouting report: Trump, who was named the Spartans' MVP, was a large reason why Marian only allowed 12 goals in 10 games in the tough East Suburban Catholic Conference. A co-captain along with Cleary, Trump tried to put her team on her back with two goals against Stagg in regional action, though the Spartans eventually fell 4-3.
