Megan Tymorek had a remarkable junior season. The Chesterton pitcher led her Trojans to a sectional championship and shocking upset of Lake Central in the Class 4A regional.
The good news kept going for Tymorek on Monday. She received a full-ride scholarship to Morehead State, the Ohio Valley Conference member in eastern Kentucky.
“This is such a relief,” Tymorek said. “I can now play looser and not be worried about this. We went there and I fell in love with the place. It's awesome.”
Tymorek went 17-9 for the Trojans with a 1.60 ERA and 175 strikeouts. She batted .434 with nine home runs, 41 RBIs, had a .788 slugging percentage and a .611 on-base percentage.
The power hitter was actually moved to lead-off in the batting order and when that happened the Trojans' took off.
She did have several suitors. Valparaiso University, Louisville, Tennessee Tech and Western Kentucky were the other D-I schools showing interest. Lewis University had already offered a scholarship and St. Joseph's College was planning on it very soon.
But while driving to a travel tournament in Chattanooga, the family stopped off in Morehead, Ky. After a three-hour meeting with the coaching staff, the door was opened. They drove up and saw Tymorek pitch in Indianapolis on Sunday.
The coaches offered a scholarship on Monday and Tymorek verbally committed immediately.
Tymorek is leaning toward a major in athletic training.
“I put a lot of hard work into this,” Tymorek said. “That's what makes this so great. I feel like all the work paid off.”
