Crete-Monee senior guard Michael Orris was granted release of his letter of intent to the University of Illinois on Friday, according to his AAU coach Scott Lidskin.
This is the second time Orris decommitted from a school. He originally committed to Creighton, then changed his verbal commitment.
Lidskin cited several reasons — including the firings of coach Bruce Weber and Illinois' top recruiter, associate head coach Jerrance Howard is not returning. Lidskin, who runs Illinois Old School Basketball, is also an assistant basketball coach at Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook Illinois where Weber's brother, Dave, is the head coach.
"I think Michael just thought it wouldn't be a good fit for him," Lidskin said. "We are open again and starting from scratch, though we have several schools that are already interested in him."
Among the schools showing interest are Kansas State, where Weber is now the head coach, Pitt, Boston College, Missouri State, Valparaiso and Wisconsin-Green Bay. Orris' high school teammate Greg Mays is a freshman at UW-Green Bay.
Orris was a first-team Times all-area pick as a junior and a second-team selection as a senior.
When reached by text, Orris referred all questions to Lidskin.
