GRIFFITH | Dennis Bunda hates the snow, so the former athletic director and coach spent the last eight years in Arizona.
Now the 1961 Horace Mann grad has returned to the region, signing a two-year contract as Griffith's new AD after being contacted by superintendent Dr. Pete Morikis.
“I was asked if I was interested, and you're always interested in something,” said Bunda, who previously spent 28 years at Calumet, the last 10 as athletic director, before moving near Tucson. “I loved being an AD and I will (love it) at Griffith.
“This is a good fit for both of us.”
Bunda's hiring was approved at last Thursday's school board meeting.
He also coached varsity football and junior high track at Calumet, where he served three years on the Indiana Athletic Association Board of Directors.
“I'll do the same thing I did at Calumet — get everything running smoothly and help the coaches,” Bunda said. “I'll be wearing black and gold now instead of red and white.
"I've got a lot of red and white stuff to get rid of.”
Bunda replaces Bill Crowley. He officially assumes his athletic director duties July 1.
