East Chicago School Board President Jesse Gomez, and the other eight members of the city's educational leadership body, have had a long month of work.

Trying to abide by state law by reducing the number of administrators in the school city has been tough, Gomez said. On Wednesday Gomez clarified what took place at Tuesday night's school board meeting in regards to E.C. Central football coach Stacy Adams.

"Never did the board have a conversation on the status of (Adams) as the football coach," Gomez said.

The question concerned Adams' position as an administrator, which Gomez said he would be retained.

Letters have been sent to administrators and conferences with the board have taken place about each person's future in the district. This process must be completed by July 1.

Gomez said they have not gotten to the job elimination part of the process yet. No decision has been made about the athletic director's position, Gomez said.

"We're trying to clean up the mess the previous board left us," Gomez said.

Adams led E.C. Central to a 9-2 record last fall and was named The Times Coach of the Year. Most of the Cardinals went to Tuesday's meeting in support of their coach.

Gomez said that the specific administrative position that Adams will have during the 2013-14 school year has yet to be announced.
