There are big changes in store at Kankakee Valley for the upcoming 2013-14 school year.
The Kougars are looking for a new boys varsity basketball coach and varsity assistant after losing brothers Jeff and Scott Hamstra.
Jeff Hamstra, who was 24-41 in three seasons at his alma mater, will become dean of students at Wilbur Wright Middle School in Munster while Scott Hamstra has accepted an elementary teaching position with the Jimtown school system.
"It's going to be tough replacing them," K.V. Athletic Director Doug Greenlee said. "They're quality coaches and quality people."
Those interested in applying should contact Greenlee at 219-956-3143, ext. 2025, or at DGreenle@kv.k12.in.us
In related news, 1996 K.V. grad and long-time varsity assistant Ryan Armstrong is the Kougars' new baseball coach. He replaces Greenlee, who stepped down last season with a 503-317 career record.
"Ryan was very loyal to me," Greenlee said. "I did the job for 25 years and he was a big part of that for 15, 16 years, as a player and a coach.
"He expects a lot out of our kids and that's what he should get. If not, he'll find another kid to put in there."
