PORTAGE | The Portage Township School Board recognized two Portage High School academic teams for their recent successes.
The PHS Academic Decathlon team, under the direction of Elizabeth Wysocki, placed eighth in recent state competition bringing home four medals. The competition was held Feb. 8 and 9.
Medaling for PHS in the state competitions were Megan Whiteside, who won bronze medal in the essay writing and literature categories and Jeremy Mendoza who won a silver medal in the economics category and a bronze medal in the science category.
Other members of the decathlon team are Samantha Hendron, Katiana Tatusko, Nicole McEwen, Analyse Pena, James Podgorski, Josh Kane and Sam Hensley.
Also recognized was the PHS Quiz Bowl team which will compete at the state level for the first time March 16. The team is under the direction of teacher Cathy Nye. The state competition will be held at Harrison High School in West Lafayette.
Members of the Quiz Bowl team are James Podgorski, Matt Bliss, Collin Czilli, Cody Kupiec, Chrissy Miller and Stephanie Vance.
