SOUTH HOLLAND | Seton Academy's Alex Foster has verbally committed to play college basketball at Texas Tech.
The 6-foot-8 Foster will play for coach Tubby Smith. Foster originally signed with Minnesota when Smith was the coach of the Golden Gophers, then got out of his letter of intent when Smith was fired and Richard Pitino, son of Louisville coach Rick Pitino, became the Golden Gophers' head coach.
Foster transferred to Seton before his senior year from De La Salle High School and helped lead the Sting to a second place finish in the Class 2A State Tournament.
He is expected to fax his Letter of Intent to Texas Tech later this week.
The Red Raiders had a record of 11-20 this past year and just 3-15 in the Big 12 Conference. They started the year under former Kentucky coach Billy Gillespie, who had been at the school for just more than a year, but were coached all season by an interim head coach after Gillespie left for health reasons amid allegations of player mistreatment.
