When South Central opens its season Friday against LaVille, Bob Foster will not be on the sidelines for what would have been his first game as head coach of the Satellites.
"Bob Foster is no longer the football coach at South Central High School," South Central athletic director Dan Klimczak confirmed in a prepared statement.
Klimczak would not elaborate on whether Foster, a former Satellites player and assistant, resigned or was removed from the position. South Central Superintendent Chris Smith did not return a call Tuesday. Foster declined to speak about the circumstances.
Klimczak said the present coaching staff is handling the team in the interim and his involvement as a coach going forward is not known at this time.
"I love those kids with all my heart," Foster said. "They're the closest group I've ever been around. I hope they're better than when we started and I do believe they are. I hope they win state. I want them to know I'm only a phone call away."
The change continues a revolving door at the school. Jud Tolmen coached in 2008-09, followed by Jeff Karras, who led S.C. to its first sectional title in 2010. He left before last season and was replaced on an interim basis by Mel Hay. Foster was subsequently hired in the spring.
