It didn't take much for new Seton Academy girls volleyball coach Brianna Rising to get the coaching bug.
She works at the Calumet Memorial Park District in Calumet City and was a three-sport athlete at T.F. North.
Her dad, the late Don Rising, was a well-known youth coach. He also coached at T.F. North and Seton Academy.
"That definitely was in the back of my mind," Rising said. "I have been involved in sports my whole life, and I want to work with kids and make them get better."
She has her work cut out for her as the Sting has struggled recently, but it is a challenge she said she is up for.
"We have some talent, but they just need to be taught the fundamentals," Rising said. "My job is to go in and stress these things.
"We have a good group, and I have some talented sophomores who I am bringing up to the varsity."
The 2003 North grad said if she can accomplish that, the team will be successful.
"I want the kids who may want to play at the next level to have those skills to take them to college," Rising said. "I think you can show them how to do things, then you have to let them work at it and try to get better.
"They may make a few mistakes, but my job is to then correct it and work on getting it right."
