(Last week's ranking in parentheses; games through Wednesday)
1. Bloom Twp. (3) 4-0
The Blazing Trojans jump up two spots after their perfect run through the Chicago Heights Classic. Any team that can take down Hillcrest, Mount Carmel and Homewood-Flossmoor within the span of just a few days certainly deserves top billing, no questions asked.
2. Homewood-Flossmoor (1) 3-1
A two-overtime loss to Bloom Township was the lone blemish on the Vikings' record in Week 1, but H-F also had a couple other close calls in the Chicago Heights Classic. Tim Williams doesn't have his basketball legs under him yet, but that may not be the Vikings' only cause for concern.
3. Seton Academy (4) 6-0
The competition faced at the Lincoln Eaton tournament wasn't brutal, but five wins there by an average margin of 14 points shouldn't be ignored. The Sting also crushed Hammond Morton Tuesday night to stay unbeaten. T.F. North transfer Sylvester Tolliver is already paying dividends.
4. Crete-Monee (2) 2-1
If anyone doubted Michael Orris' importance to the Warriors, his absence during Thanksgiving week vividly illustrated it. While the Illinois-bound guard was sidelined with an ankle injury, Crete lost to Andrew and barely beat Oak Forest. His quick return to good health is vital.
5. Thornwood (5) 2-2
It was not an impressive season debut for the Thunderbirds, who almost surrendered their poll position after breaking even at the Chicago Heights Classic. Thornwood's two losses were both by four points, but the one versus Marian Catholic really shouldn't have happened.
