CEDAR LAKE, IN - Michael Harvey Ghiz, beloved brother, uncle and dear friend to many, died unexpectedly in Cedar Lake, IN on October 2, 2017 at the age of sixty-nine (69).

Michael is survived by his brother, Harvey Ghiz, sister-in-law, Irene Ghiz, sister, Gerry Ghiz and his life partner, Jeanette Binder and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Michael Ghiz, his mother, Rose Ghiz, and sister, Monette Woolcock.

Michael was born on February 26, 1948 in Logan, W. VA and eventually moved to the capital where he graduated from the Charleston High School and attended Morris Harvey College. Thereafter, Michael enlisted in the United States Army and performed a tour of duty in Vietnam. Upon his return, Michael moved to the Greater Chicago Area and started up a high-end kitchen design company, known as 'Kitchen Savers'. Thanks to his expertise in designing kitchens, he became an excellent cook.

Michael enjoyed the outdoors and his dog, 'Lady', who was his constant companion. He was familiar with varieties of flowers and trees and enjoyed gardening and landscaping. He loved football especially the West Virginia Mountaineers. He had an engaging personality and was a good listener with an ability to empathize with people offering a quick wit and a ready joke.

Michael was an active and dedicated member of the Descent of the Holy Spirit Orthodox Church located in Schererville, IN. He will be remembered as an excellent craftsman, a leading member in his Church and a friend to so many.

Michael will be buried in Charleston, W. VA on October 10, 2017, with a separate memorial planned to occur in Valparaiso, IN thereafter.
