Chicago Gourmet, one of the year's top culinary events, moves into Millennium Park this weekend.
The event, presented by Bon Appetit and The Illinois Restaurant Association runs from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Chicago Gourmet 2013 will include a variety of culinary offerings and special activities. Food, wine, spirits and beer tastings as well as educational seminars, celebrity chef demos, book signings and more will be featured.
Among celebrity chefs in attendance will be Sara Moulton, Hugh Acheson, Art Smith, Graham Elliot, Takashi Yagihashi, Tony Mantuano and others. There'll be a Go Global station with special programming and a special Dessert Pavilion on the premises as well. A special Hamburger Hop kicks off the festivities tonight. Asparagus restaurant, 7876 Broadway, will have a "Wine Pairing Dinner" featuring Hartford Family Wines Oct. 17. Cost is $55 for a four-course dinner and wines. FYI: (219) 794-0000.
The Homeowners Association of Ogden Dunes will have a Chili Cook-Off Saturday. Judging will be held at 4 p.m. across from Kratz Field at 81 Hillcrest Road. General chili tasting is at 4:30 p.m. Tasting cost for association members is $5; non-members pay $10.
Crown Point Oktoberfest
Mayor David Uran of Crown Point and Crown Brewing have announced the upcoming sixth annual Oktoberfest from 3 to 11 p.m. on South Main Street. Featured will be a Chili Cook-Off, various food for purchase, live entertainment, bean bag tournament and more. FYI: (219) 661-2271
