Delicious ethnic food, various entertainment and a popular parade will be among highlights of Pierogi Fest running today through Sunday in downtown Whiting.

Fest organizers will roll out the good times and pounds of the doughy ethnic specialty for more than 250,000 visitors expected to converge on Whiting this weekend. Note: The travel Website TripAdvisor just placed Pierogi Fest on its Top 10 list of bizarre festivities.

Among food vendors and special areas will be a Beer Garden sponsored by Horseshoe Casino in Hammond. Food from the Horseshoe's restaurant Benny's will be in the spotlight in the beer garden as well as craft brews from the casino's Sixth Street bar and lounge. Don't forget to attend the Pierogi Parade tonight. FYI:

Upcoming anniversary

Stay tuned for more information on the festivities for Glenwood Oaks' upcoming anniversary. The restaurant, located  at 106 N. Main St. Glenwood, Ill., will have a celebration the week of Aug. 12 in honor of its 39th anniversary. Check this column in the next two weeks for more details. FYI: (708) 758-4400

Celebrity Bottle Signing

Fans of Perry Farrell, Jane's Addiction front man and Lollapalooza creator, will want to get in line when Farrell appears at Binny's, 1132 S. Jefferson St., Chicago, on Aug. 1 to sign bottles of Maestro Dobel Tequila. Maestro Dobel is the official tequila of Lollapalooza and a brand which has been endorsed by the musician. Bottle signing runs from 4 to 6 p.m. and is open to individuals ages 21 and older.

Lollapalooza takes over Grant Park Aug. 2 to 4. FYI:

Breakfast with the Arts

The Hobart Arts League will have "Breakfast with the Arts" from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the league, 3850 Howard St. Hobart. Participants can talk with artists and view their works while enjoying a pancake breakfast. Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children 9 to 15. Free for those younger than 9. FYI: (219) 942-3834
