Lavish Christmas Brunch

If you'd rather leave the preparation of your holiday meal to someone else, T.J. Maloney's Authentic Irish Pub at Star Plaza, 800 E. 81st Ave., Merrillville, welcomes diners on Christmas day.

The restaurant's Christmas Day Brunch will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 25. Final reservations are at 2:45 p.m. On the menu will be dishes such as carved honey baked ham; carved prime rib with garlic mashed red potatoes; seared skin-on chicken with whiskey cream sauce; Irish mac and cheese; curry shrimp over rice; eggs and omelets to order; homemade corned beef hash; blueberry cobbler; eggnog and gingerbread cupcakes and more.

Cost for the meal is $29.95 for adults; $24.95 for senior citizens; and $15.95 for children ages 3 to 12. Free admission for children 3 and younger. FYI: For reservations, call (219) 755-0569. Reservations made for 10 a.m. receive 10 percent off.

Something's Brewing

Sixth Street, a craft beer bar, at Hammond's Horseshoe Casino, opened its doors recently. The new bar, located near the Horseshoe Poker Room, features 24 selections on tap and 16 selections in bottles.

Rotating taps will also be available seasonally. "Sixth Street will be the perfect place for craft beer discovery and exploration, as we are proud to feature a competitive mix of up-and-coming and established brewers from the neighboring Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana areas and beyond. This is an environment that lends itself to patrons in pursuit of leisurely sports watching or celebratory toasting," said Jennifer Galle, vice president of marketing for Horseshoe Casino, in a press release.

Various bar snacks are also available in the lounge. Of note are the strips of gourmet house cured bacon served in bottles and glasses. FYI: chicagohorseshoe.com

 'Plaid Tidings' and Wine Event

Theatre at the Center, 1040 Ridge Road, in Munster, recently had its "Beer and Wine Tasting," in conjunction with the musical "Plaid Tidings." (The holiday show runs through Dec. 23.)

I joined in the fun event to chat with attendees about entertaining ideas for the season. Assorted hors' d'oeuvres were served to complement the spirit offerings from Strack and Van Til.

Among local people enjoying the event were Don and Sandy Seger; Barb and Lee Reynolds; Larry Kraynik; Terri Wasik; Joan Barnash; Jane Cleveland; LaDonna and Bud Wasson; Vicky Halkias; Rosy Yeretsian; Susan and Mark Itczak; Diane and Bill Harvey; Rhonda and George Petro; Barbara and Randy Chavez and Mela Castel.

Christmas Beers

Wise Guys University, with locations at 93rd and Taft, in Merrillville, and 1413 Lake Park Ave., Hobart, will feature its "Christmas Beers" tasting from 6 to 8 p.m. today. FYI: wiseguysliquors.com
