A special Mass will ring in 2018 in Gary on New Year's Day.
A Pontifical Latin Mass will be presented at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Angels Cathedral on Tyler Street in Gary. Latin Masses, which were the norm in Catholic churches decades ago, are rare these days.
It's been 50 years since the cathedral held a Mass in the Latin rite. Presiding over the Mass will be Bishop Joseph Perry, auxiliary bishop of Chicago.
Included in the traditional Latin Mass will be special music, including Gregorian chant and Renaissance choral polyphony.
Holy Angels Cathedral is located at 640 Tyler St., Gary. Parking is available on cathedral grounds. All are invited to attend the special Mass. For more information, visit nwilatin.org/cathedral.
