Legendary Chicago Bull Michael Jordan will be taking on another number soon.

Jordan celebrates his 50th birthday on Feb. 17 and his signature eatery Michael Jordan's Steak House in Chicago and other locations will celebrate the big day with a special menu, wine dinner and charity auction.

"We're going to take people on a little bit of a journey through Michael's life," said James O'Donnell, executive chef for Michael Jordan's Steak House.

"He was born in New York," O'Donnell said, adding they'll start off the five- course meal with Shrimp Cocktail with 23-Spice Sauce created by Cenobio Canalizo, who is the chef of Michael Jordan's in New York City.

Other segments of the menu, he explained, will feature southern fare, Midwest-themed food and more. Among dishes will be Pan Roasted Sea Scallops with Anson Mills Grits, Blue Crab and Hazelnuts; Maxwell Street Style Duroc Pork Tenderloin, Pickled Mustard Seeds, Cippolini Onion Jam, Lardo Fries; 50-Day Dry Aged Wagyu Ribeye Steak with Creamed Spinach; and Goat Cheese Custard with Spiced Cherries, Sea Salt Caramel and Cocoa Nib Crumble.

"We've all contributed a course," said O'Donnell, explaining that chefs from each of the restaurants, including Chicago, New York, and Connecticut at the Mohegan Sun, have crafted recipes. (O'Donnell is often in the kitchen in Chicago and Connecticut.)

O'Donnell contributed the Sea Scallops while Craig Couper, chef de cuisine at the Chicago location, created the pork tenderloin and Hillary Rikower, pastry chef in Chicago, contributed the goat cheese custard.

According to O'Donnell, the menu offerings at Jordan's Steak House always make use of quality, seasonal ingredients.

"And the menu changes constantly in Chicago," he said. It's also a priority to obtain ingredients from local farmers.

O'Donnell said not only did the chefs at Jordan's restaurants want to celebrate the milestone in a monumental way but they also wanted to offer something interesting to customers.

"We want them to have a great time and it's an opportunity to do something different," he said.

And will Michael make an appearance on his birthday?

"We're not sure where Michael will be. But it's obviously an open invitation to him. We'd love to have him here," said O'Donnell.

The cost for the Wine Dinner, featuring Terlato wines, Charity Auction and Special Menu is $125. To make reservations or for more information, call (312) 321-8823
