Bacon Fest

SEPT. 16, 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Founder's Square Park, 6300 Founders Square, Portage. 219.232.8599. Each food booth and truck will offer a specialty bacon item at this second annual free family festival, which also will feature games and music.

Brews-Blues-BBQ Fest

SEPT. 16, 5-11 p.m., Burns Harbor Food Truck Square, 1237 Westport Road, Burns Harbor. 219.406.3272. Burns Harbor's Food Truck Square hosts this second annual fest with a variety of vendors serving BBQ, a performance by rhythm and blues band Soulshyne and craft brews, spirits and wine.


SEPT. 16, noon-10 p.m., Byway Brewing, 2825 Carlson Drive, Hammond. Byway Brewing and Rockopelli partner for this fundraiser featuring traditional German fare, drink specials and five bands playing a variety of music. Proceeds benefit the charities that Rockopelli supports.

Pumpkin Fest

SEPT. 16, 5-9 p.m., Lake County Fairgrounds Pavilion 4 & 5, 889 S. Court St., Crown Point 219.663.4545. This inaugural family-friendly festival will offer kids activities, an inflatable obstacle course, a pumpkin pie eating contest, food trucks, entertainment by Doc Fuller and pumpkin ales.

South County Cook-off and Pie Baking Contest

SEPT. 16, 3-6 p.m., Buggy Wheel Pavilion, Porter County Expo Center, 215 E. Division Road, Valparaiso. 219.766.3851. Local culinarians will compete for the best pork butt, cherry pie, BBQ sauce, brisket, baby back ribs and baked beans. Attendees can sample the tasty entries. Proceeds benefit Kouts and Morgan schools and fire departments.

Apples Festival 2017
