It's time once again for one of the year's sweetest fundraisers.
The For the Love of Chocolate Gala, presented by The French Pastry School, will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight Feb. 23 at The Union League Club of Chicago.
The 8th annual event will star everything from a five-course dinner created by some of the city's star chefs to dessert tastings; dance party; a fashion show; and a chance to mingle with other chocolate fans in a spectacular culinary setting.
At press time, the VIP package featuring dinner and dancing is sold out. Guests can still purchase a ticket for the Dessert Dance Party Package ($150).
Theme for the gala this year, coinciding with the next day's Oscars telecast, will be Hollywood Glamour. Students from Southeast Side teacher Gloria Hafer's After School Matters culinary class will have their talents on display with a showcase of chocolate/candy dresses in the Cocoa Couture Fashion Show.
The evening's menu will also feature specialty drinks and an open bar.
Chicago's French Pastry School, founded by Jacquy Pfeiffer and Sebastien Canonne, is considered one of the most noted pastry institutions in the country.
The school's first chocolate gala, which was held in 2006, was a benefit for Abigail Wodrich, daughter of Chesterton's Third Coast Spice Cafe owners Lisa and David Wodrich. Proceeds from that first event helped Abigail's family pay for a kidney transplant for her. The school's scholarship foundation was later established in 2007.
