Some of Chicago's most creative chocolatiers will be working their magic for a good cause Thursday.

Their talents will be on display when the AIDS Foundation of Chicago  presents its 11th annual World of Chocolate gala from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Hilton Chicago, 720 S. Michigan Ave.

"This is our annual event that commemorates World AIDS Day," said event organizer Rhett Lindsay. World AIDS Day is Dec. 1.

At the party, pastries, candy and savory dishes starring chocolate will be in the spotlight from Chicago-area chefs and chocolatiers. A light buffet, specialty drinks, musical entertainment and more will be featured.

Lindsay said about 1,200 people are expected to attend the gala.

"Awareness is the biggest thing to come out of this," Lindsay said.

He added while helping an important cause, attendees always have a great time sampling sweets and other recipes and meeting with other guests.

"It's been a tradition for many of our patrons to kick off the holiday season with World of Chocolate," Lindsay said.

While sweets are celebrated at this event, Lindsay said new this year will be another side to the luscious edible.

"We're going to be focusing on the savory part of chocolate," he said, adding that chefs will create various recipes for dishes other than desserts.

Lindsay said the event's 30 committee members always begin planning the next year's event immediately after each party.

"They start right after it's over," he said, with a laugh.

The event benefits AFC's grant-making, policy and public education programs. Tickets are $125. Various ticket packages are also available. FYI:
