If you're gathering the family to attend one of many holiday shows in the Region this season, you may also want to make it a full day of dining and entertainment.

Diverse restaurants in the area are near local theaters or within easy driving distance to and from various venues.

If you're attending a concert or production at a local casino, you'll easily find dining options right on the premises. And if you'll be part of the audience at places such as Towle Theatre in Hammond, Theatre at the Center in Munster, Memorial Opera House in Valparaiso, Star Plaza Theatre in Merrillville and others, you'll find an assortment of eateries nearby.

Don Quijote Restaurante, 119 E. Lincolnway, Valparaiso. Call (219) 462-7976. If Spanish fare is what you crave, stop in and order a meal at Don Quijote's in downtown Valpo. It's a good spot to visit if you're taking in a show at one of Valparaiso's venues.

Giovanni's, 603 Ridge Road, Munster. Call (219) 836-6220. Dinner options include everything from baked oysters Rockefeller and lasagna to shrimp marinara, chicken Alfredo, roast duck and steak.

Entertainment fans flocking to The Venue at Horseshoe Casino can visit one of various eateries on the casino grounds. For steaks, chops, seafood and other hearty offerings, make plans to attend Jack Binion's Steak House. Care for a burger and a shake? Head to Benny's Pub and Eatery. Or enjoy a meal at the Village Square Buffet, Foo Noodle Bar or J.B's Gourmet Sandwiches.

The Restaurant at Lost Marsh, 1001 129th St., Hammond. Call (219) 228-2534. The eatery overlooking the golf course features a varied menu. Dining options include shrimp cocktail, crab cakes, various sandwiches and salads, baby back ribs, burgers, shrimp or chicken penne pasta, chicken Parmesan and more.

Taking in a Sunday show at Theatre at the Center? Make plans to attend the center's Sunday brunch. An all-you-can-eat brunch is served between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Cost is $22.50 for adults; $11.50 for ages 4 to 11 and $3 for kids under 4 years old. A Holiday Buffet, held in conjunction with the center's "A Christmas Carol the Musical" will be held today and Dec. 13. Call for more details.

T.J. Maloney's Authentic Irish Pub, Interstate 65 and U.S. 30, in Radisson Star Plaza complex, Merrillville. Call (219) 755-0569. If you find yourself seeing one of many holiday shows at Star Plaza, T.J. Maloney's features a full menu of specialties, including everything from Irish nachos and fish and chips to chicken pot pie and seafood stew.

Have a taste for pizza? Pop in for slice or more at one of the many pizza joints around. There are many within easy driving distance to various theaters.
