Help for men suffering from prostate enlargement
Research recently published in the journal "Urology" showed that drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction also can relieve the symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia). Benign prostatic hyperplasia affects about 50 percent of men older than 50. Symptoms include increased frequency of urination, urinary urgency, weak stream of urine, incomplete emptying of the bladder and an intermittent urinary stream. Existing medications can have side effects such as dizziness, low blood pressure and sexual dysfunction. The researchers, from University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, Northwestern University in Chicago and Lilly Research Laboratories, reported patients who received tadalafil were "more likely" to report an improvement in their symptoms with relatively few side effects.
