SEVENTH ANNUAL GARDENING SHOW | Valparaiso
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan 23 at the Porter County Exposition Center, Ind. 49 and Division Road. Admission is $7 with children ages 12 and younger free. The Gardening Show - winner of the 2009 Festival of the Year Award - features presentations by Regional and local gardening experts, special lodging and dining packages, seed and bulb exchange, garden photography contest, children's corner, and food service, as well as 75 exhibitors and vendors of products and services for and about gardens and gardening. Parking is also free.

SCHOLARSHIPS OFFERED | Lake County
The Lake County Master Gardeners have announced that they are continuing their scholarship program for the 2010-11 academic year. The application deadline is Feb.15. Scholarships will be awarded to college and university students who are residents of Lake County. In addition to the majors of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, majors of Forestry, Botany (Horticulture Equivalent), Plant Pathology, Entomology are eligible as well. Other majors that benefit consumer gardening may be considered if the applicant provides a one paragraph description of how they will use their major to promote the objectives of the Master Gardeners. Application forms are available from university departmental offices or at ces.purdue.edu/CES/Lake/files/ANR/2010MGScholarship.pdf. The scholarships are funded by the proceeds of the Master Gardener annual plant sale, donations from the Illiana Pond and Garden Society and other generous donors.

SCANNER AS CAMERA CLASS | Valparaiso
9 a.m. to noon Saturday Jan. 30 is a Scanner as Camera class. Learn how to make still life images using a flat-bed scanner as a camera. Aimee Tomasek is the photography professor at Valparaiso University. She is a working artist pursuing documentary themes regarding agriculture, steel making and festivals. Her first photographic essay was a 4-H project. Classes are held in Taltree's classroom, 71 N. 500 West St. Winter is the perfect time for gardeners and nature enthusiasts to grow and learn, plan, inspire and become inspired.
