More than 200 blue balloons will be displayed outside homes across the region this weekend, inviting you inside to take a look and discuss the local housing market with an industry expert. Joining thousands of REALTORS® across the country, members of the Greater Northwest Indiana Association of REALTORS® (GNIAR) are once again taking part in the nation’s largest open house event.

It’s a great way to jump start the search for your dream home while interest rates remain low and the real estate market is improving.

Sponsored by the National Association of REALTORS®, this annual event provides a platform to promote the benefits of homeownership and continues an open dialogue with consumers about the housing issues that matter most to them. Local REALTORS® will be present at each open house to provide expert advice on the home buying and/or selling process, the real estate industry and most importantly today’s market in a no pressure to purchase environment.

“The Nationwide Open House weekend is the perfect opportunity for consumers to see all that Northwest Indiana has to offer. It’s a truly remarkable place to call home for a variety of reasons,” GNIAR Chief Executive Officer Peter Novak, Jr. said.

According to GNIAR, the local housing market boasts positive attributes such as 21 consecutive months of growth in year over year comparisons along with historically low interest rates, competitive home prices and property tax caps in Indiana ’s legislature.

Along with providing the unique ability to check out a great variety of homes on the market right now, this event is also the perfect time to meet the right real estate professional for your needs, whether a move is in your plans this spring or somewhere down the road.

From guiding you every step of the way as the home buying/selling process unfolds, an agent experienced in similar situations to yours can help you find the best possible opportunities while helping you avoid potential pitfalls. After all, while even some of the most active real estate consumers will buy or sell somewhere between five to ten properties in a lifetime, a professional agent has made working in the real estate industry his or her career.

As a result, you can count on your agent to help you achieve your target move-in and/or move-out dates, with the latest information on everything from properties and neighborhoods to pricing and contract terms, including marketing tools, staging advice, negotiation strategies, referrals to mortgage brokers and, if necessary, any extra financial preparation so you can ultimately buy the best possible home for your situation.

When it comes to working with a REALTOR®, you want to find someone you’re comfortable sharing personal information with - from your vision for a home to detailed financial records. Here’s your chance to meet with a number of REALTORS® at work out in the field. From there you can arrange a time to discuss the specifics of his or her action plan for achieving your real estate goals.

During the Nationwide Open House weekend, houses will be open to the public at various times throughout Northwest Indiana in Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Jasper and Newton counties. More than 200 open houses are scheduled.

Open house locations will be featured on gniar.com and in local papers. Be sure to look for the blue balloons!
