One part cultural indicator, one part marketing forecast, the color experts at Pantone, poll designers and brands each year about the colors they’re featuring. For 2014, the company has bestowed the distinction of Color of the Year on what is known as shade 18-3224 in its database - Radiant Orchid.
“While the 2013 color of the year, Pantone 17-5641 Emerald Green, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” Pantone Color Institute executive director Leatrice Eiseman explained. “Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”
Look for Radiant Orchid to infiltrate fashion and beauty items, including nail and lip color, as well as home furnishings and paint – it’s already being added to the Pantone Universe Paint Collection available at Lowe’s.
According to Pantone, Radiant Orchid is complementary to olive and deeper hunter greens plus turquoise, teal and light yellows.
