Teamwork at Dean’s Lawn & Landscaping has always been the key to the long-term success of the company, which has been a touchstone for homeowners throughout Northwest Indiana and south suburban Chicago for 20 years. Through a natural love and affinity for working outdoors and a practiced eye for bringing landscape elements together, the artisans and craftsmen complete the vision developed by the client.
“It’s truly a group effort around here,” explains Dean Savarino, President of Dean’s Lawn & Landscaping. “Every individual that makes up this company contributes something amazing. It’s something we take great pride in and something that our clients and Garden Center customers truly benefit from.”
Customer service is priority at Dean's, starting with the person who answers the phone. A fundamental next step is visiting the site. Whether for guidance on options, or a new landscape build from the ground up, the professionals at Dean's are eager to work on the visual presentation and extension of a client's creativity and individuality. Although Dean's Landscaping has been awarded the prestigious Belgard Best in Class for the second year in row and other industry accolades, there’s nothing more satisfying to this team than a client who sees what she or he imagined brought to life.
That opportunity is what makes designer William Dennison's job so fun. Dennison began working at the Landscape Company and garden center during the summer of his sophomore year of high school, watering plants and helping at checkout. While finishing his degree at Purdue Calumet, he returned as a full-time designer and team member.
“Working with our customers is absolutely my favorite part of the job,” he says. “I can’t tell you how many people walk into our Garden Center with a picture they have of what they wish their backyard could look like. I love being able to help a customer pick out the appropriate plants for their area, but also to show them exactly what it’s going to look like with a complete photo image design of their actual property. They can then envision how it’s going to look at their own home.”
Dennison says he is grateful he’s learned so much in the years he’s worked with the company and alongside Dean. “Dean has taught me so about much about everything in the landscape industry. Even more importantly, he has taught me the importance of teamwork and relationships. It’s those ideals that will stick with me for a long, long time.”
Savarino is dedicated to teaching and learning with all his team members from the most seasoned professionals to the youngest dreamers. Paul Kowalski, a longtime gardening expert recently joined the Dean's team. Kowalski brings with him great skills and experienced knowledge about growing and gardening in this area of the country. He has been a great addition to the team.
“A majority of our clients have gotten to know us through our hardscaping, but we are always looking for ways to expand on our positive reputation through our landscaping services and Garden Center,” says Savarino. The team loves building dreams, but helping a client maintain, renew and keep building onto that original vision is satisfying as well. “There are so many ways that this company can help to make our customer’s landscaping dreams a reality.”
Dean's Landscaping also has a plan for the future with the addition of a brand new 10,000 square foot outdoor showroom, scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2014. “We want this outdoor showroom to become yet another place where our customer’s landscaping dreams can begin to be realized. It will be an inviting area where we can show prospective clients firsthand how we can help to transform their outdoor living areas. From a small sitting area filled with perennials to an entire outdoor living area, our team is here to help. It’s going to be quite an educational opportunity for our customers, and we take great pride in that opportunity to help them realize their landscape dreams.”
Many of those dreams begin in the Garden Center, where customers find touch points that they can relate to. “Often, what started as a relatively small project evolves into a larger backyard vision, where the possibilities are truly endless.”
