Although others may have been frustrated with the construction of Valparaiso’s latest roundabout, “the mother of all roundabouts,” Larry Hitz, broker/owner of the Prudential Executive Group Real Estate office at 2612 North Calumet Avenue, has been exhilarated. Since 1982, Larry has been an integral player in the progress of the city of Valparaiso participating in redevelopment and job creation, and new development and new construction initiatives.

With nearly 10,000 new people moving into Valparaiso since 1980, the city has responded well and continues to be a great place to call home for people of all ages.

“Every corner of Valparaiso is being redeveloped,” he explained. “In just the last 10 years we’ve seen the downtown grow with new restaurants, shops and activities. There’s a beautiful new park, live entertainment venue and theatre. Our schools are outstanding, and Valparaiso University adds to the culture of the city. There are miles of pathways residents enjoy for leisure and fitness. We have an efficient citywide bus service, plus convenient ChicagoDash express commuter bus service every weekday.”

Being connected to the pulse of the community has always been extremely important to Larry, from rolling up his sleeves and serving on working committees, giving of his time and serving on philanthropic boards and reaching into his pockets and financially supporting major initiatives, he also encourages and supports the philanthropic interests and efforts of his agents and staff.

Over the last thirty-plus years, the Prudential Executive team has been bringing real estate buyers and sellers together, sharing the experiences and touching the lives of homeowners who are just getting started, moving up and retiring along the way.

“That truly is the best part,” Larry said. “Being connected to the lives of our residents. They become life-long friends.”

With a focus on three basic areas of expertise, the Prudential Executive Group team thrived.

“New construction, relocation and the high-end of the market were all a natural fit as Valparaiso was growing and changing,” he explained. “I had the great opportunity to be a part of some very prestigious projects.”

Larry partnered with Bob Coolman on designing and bringing to fruition Walden, Valparaiso’s first high-end, lifestyle community. He also was a partner with Benchmark Limited, the developers of Aberdeen, Porter County’s first traditional neighborhood development. As a result, Prudential Executive Group was the marketing agency of choice for Sand Creek (Chesterton), Whitethorne Woods and Brigata Hills.

In order to keep pace with all the changes taking place in and around the city, as well as within the real estate industry, Prudential Executive Group has continually evolved.

“We have about 20 agents working in our office, and the great thing about that is we have people who specialize in everything from custom homes to starter homes, including farms and foreclosures,” Larry said. “I’m especially proud of the fact that our agents cover a great deal of territory – one is a top agent in Lake County and many of us are licensed in Illinois. We have people like myself with decades of experience to brand new agents who are incredibly tech savvy, so there’s a great deal of give and take when it comes to industry knowledge in our office.”

When he served as president of the Greater Northwest Indiana Association of REALTORS® in 1999, there was a great deal of concern about how the Internet was going to affect the industry. However, it has been proven that even as change is inevitable, real estate professionals will always be needed based on their intimate knowledge of the local market, according to Larry.

“People like to search for homes online, but they still need to see them, touch them and even smell them in order to make that final decision,” he explained. “Having the longevity in the marketplace, being intimately involved in the community and surrounding ourselves with the agents who are passionate about their profession, Prudential Executive Group is positioned to be the choice for consumers well into the future.”
