Gary's first urban farm seeks community input

January 26, 2012 12:00 am

A community development project that seeks to transform an abandoned lot at 15th and Massachusetts in Gary into a lush green space producing fresh fruits and vegetables is seeking citizens' input at a Community Day planned for 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Christ United Methodist Church, 201 W. Ridge Rd., Gary. Stewart House Urban Farm and Gardens wants feedback from Gary residents about their needs for fresh produce, and is looking for individuals and community organizations who want to participate in developing the site. Attendees are also asked to bring new or used gardening tools that can be used when ground is broken for planting this spring. For more information about the Community Day, contact project manager Sandy Rodriguez at (773) 459-2058 or (219) 938-7720, email stewarthousegary@gmail.com, or just show up on Jan. 28. Free parking is available.
