It’s a fact. Homeownership is extremely affordable right now. In some cases, it’s actually cheaper to buy a home of your own than it is to pay someone else rent.

For example, with monthly ownership costs averaging between $750-$1,100 (including principal, interest, taxes, insurance and Home Owner Association fees which cover landscaping, lawn care and snow removal plus a clubhouse with pool and fitness room) owning a beautiful, brand new Hamilton Square townhome or condominium is a great option in Crown Point, according to sales consultant Shellie Dell.

“A lot of people stop in thanks to our convenient location off I-65 between the 231 and 109th exits,” she explained. “Once they pass the distinctive entrance marker and discover our old neighborhood charm with meticulous home details borrowing from craftsman, colonial, country and traditional styles - plus the scenic landscaping, large central park and community walking path that stretches for miles - they are already impressed. But, what honestly gets their attention is the pricing, especially once they step inside a home.”

For a limited time, Olthof Homes is sweetening the deal with their “Own for Less than Rent!” promotion. Along with pricing that starts in the $130s for a 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath townhome and in the $120s for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condominium, you can choose two years of free Home Owners Association fees or free kitchen appliances with a Ready to Move In Home or save 50% off options up to $8,000 when you build a pre-sold home.

“We know rents are rising in the area, so we wanted to give people an incentive to come out and see all the benefits of home ownership at Hamilton Square,” Dell added. “It’s a tough deal to beat, especially with our current promotion, and you still have all the seasonal yard work and snow shoveling done for you.”

Lynn Thorsen started to think about making a move this time last year, and when she was ready to get serious at the end of the summer, her first stop was Hamilton Square.

“I owned a house in Schererville before this, but I always liked Crown Point a lot. The downtown is great, and all the new development is really nice too. You don’t have to go very far to get anything you need,” she said. “The company I work for does all the electrical work for Olthof, so I thought it would be a good place to start. But honestly, I just had such a good feeling when I walked through the model - and it was such a good deal – I realized right then, that’s it, I’m home!”

Thorsen and her teenage son have been enjoying life in their Wellington townhome since late last October.

“Everyone at Olthof was so nice and helpful. We were in our new home in three months. It’s just perfect for us, very comfortable. When I pull into the community after work, I feel like I’m entering another world. I’m home, and I’m happy! Along with the nice open concept layout of my home, I love the 2-car detached garage with my patio in between – it’s very secure and private,” she said.

“Another thing that I’ve noticed is that I never feel like I’m side-by-side with my neighbor or enclosed by any means,” Thorsen explained. “Coming from a single-family home I was a little worried about that. Also, the people at Olthof walked me through everything in my new home when I moved in, and then came back out for a 30-day inspection. They’ve been just great, whenever I have any questions, they are always there for me.”

Justin Johnson was temporarily living back under his parents’ roof in Lowell before he made the move to Hamilton Square.

“I grew up in Northwest Indiana and moved to San Diego about ten years ago,” he said. “Last year I made the decision to come back home and reconnect with family. Before I officially returned to the area, I did quite a bit of research online and using an app on my phone. I looked at quite a few different properties, noticing how I wanted to change this or that. I was constantly looking at options once I got here since I was driving from Lowell to my job in Merrillville. I kept seeing Hamilton Square when I would go by, and decided that’s where I want to live.”

When Dell showed Johnson the townhome model, he felt like it was a bit too much for him. However, after he saw the newly completed condominium model, he was ready to sign a contact in just two days.

“In San Diego I shared a much smaller apartment with a roommate,” he explained. “So when I walked into the condo model, it was absolutely fantastic! It had everything I wanted – including an open concept layout - right off the bat, plus it was brand new. I couldn’t believe that I could get 1,500 total square feet with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths and an attached 1-car garage all on one floor for the same as I was paying in rent before. Now, I’m just six minutes from work, near the mall and still close to my parents but with my own space. Real estate is based on location – location, location, location – that’s what it’s all about.”
