FUNDRAISER | Hobart

County Line Orchard will host "Pet Rock," a family-friendly event that benefits the homeless animals of The Humane Society of Northwest Indiana. Recipients of public aid (Food Stamps, Medicaid, Unemployment or Disability) can have their pet spayed or neutered at the Estelle Marcus Animal Clinic for a low cost: $50 for dogs, $30 for cats. Feral cats and pit bulls can also be fixed at these prices, regardless of owner income.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM | Michigan City

The Michigan City Animal Control Division has announced a volunteer program that will encompass kennel duties located at Michigan City’s Central Maintenance on the west side. Duties will include feeding cats and dogs and cleaning the kennels. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Dog and cat owners looking to get their pets fixed can take advantage of a transport program offered by the South Suburban Humane Society in Glenwood, Ill. The program transports pets to the clinic from Gary on the second Wednesday of the month. The clinic offers special rates for low-income families and those receiving disability, Social Security, unemployment or other public aid. Other vaccinations and procedures are available the day of surgery.
