American Greyhound will hold an adoption events from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Petco in Highland and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (EST) today at Big R in Goshen. The group also will participate in the St. Pat's Parade today in Michigan City.

The Independent Cat Society will hold its annual ICS Pussycat Pizza Party from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Aurelio's, 2330 N. Hwy. 35. Tickets are $12 at the door and include all-you-can-eat pizza and pop. At 8 p.m., the organization will hold a dessert raffle. All proceeds go toward to the ICS.

BENEFIT | Gary

The Humane Society of Northwest Indiana and the American Legion Hall in Gary will present a fundraiser, "Benefit the Animals," from 1 to 6 p.m. March 17 at the Legion, 6601 Hobart Road. Enjoy corned beef and cabbage, carrots, red potatoes and a shamrock cookie for $10. Dinners to go will be available, as well as a cash bar. Children 5 and younger with paid adults can eat for $5. Proceeds go to the animal shelter.

FASHION SHOW | Valparaiso

Hosted by the Business Law Society and the Sports and Entertainment Law Association of Valparaiso University, Catwalk for the Cause features spring 2013 styles for men and women. MARCH MADNESS | Westville

The Independent Cat Society is having a March Madness all month in which any cat from the shelter rooms, Kikis or Freckles, is available for adoption for $35 each with a companion for no charge. These cats are all younger, ranging in age from 1 to about 4. The shelter also is waiving adoption fees for any single cat over 5 years old. The shelter is located at U.S. 6 and County Line Road in Westville.

FUNDRAISER | Merrionette Park, Ill.

The South Suburban Humane Society will host its Street Fair for the Fur Kids Fundraiser and Adoption Event from 2 to 7 p.m. April 6 at Bourbon Street in Merrionette Park, Ill. Money raised will go to the humane society's Extreme Makeover to the more than 40-year-old shelter. Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children and may be bought online. The event will include raffle baskets, silent auctions, food, beer and wine. There also will be street fair entertainers, walking magicians, fortune tellers and adoptable animals, with entertainment by Party Hardigans.

Recipients of public aid (Food Stamps, Medicaid, Unemployment or Disability) can have their pet spayed or neutered at the Estelle Marcus Animal Clinic for a low cost: $50 for dogs, $30 for cats. Feral cats and pit bulls can also be fixed at these prices, regardless of owner income.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM | Michigan City

The Michigan City Animal Control Division has announced a volunteer program that will encompass kennel duties located at Michigan City’s Central Maintenance on the west side. Duties will include feeding cats and dogs and cleaning the kennels. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

LOW-COST SPAY/NEUTER TRANSPORT | Gary

Dog and cat owners looking to get their pets fixed can take advantage of a transport program offered by the South Suburban Humane Society in Glenwood, Ill. The program transports pets to the clinic from Gary on the second Wednesday of the month. The clinic offers special rates for low-income families and those receiving disability, Social Security, unemployment or other public aid. Other vaccinations and procedures are available the day of surgery.
