Lakeshore PAWS' adoptable pets will attend Guardian of the Green Mile's Microchip and Adoption Extravaganza from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Tractor Supply, 2500 Morthland Drive. Guardians of the Green Mile will sponsor $20 microchips and $5 nail trims for pets (free nail trim with any microchip purchase). DOG BITE SEMINAR | Schererville

Bear Run Animal Hospital will host a seminar called "Dog and Family Safety: Strategies for Dog Bite Prevention" from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Schererville Community Center, 500 E. Joliet St. The event, in conjunction with the Schererville Parks and Recreation Department, will educate the public on how to avoid dog bites and be aware of the warning signs dogs give when they feel threatened, with the goal of saving the lives of humans and dogs. COST SPAY/NEUTER | Munster

Recipients of public aid (Food Stamps, Medicaid, Unemployment or Disability) can have their pet spayed or neutered at the Estelle Marcus Animal Clinic for a low cost: $50 for dogs, $30 for cats. Feral cats and pit bulls can also be fixed at these prices, regardless of owner income.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM | Michigan City

The Michigan City Animal Control Division has announced a volunteer program that will encompass kennel duties located at Michigan City’s Central Maintenance on the west side. Duties will include feeding cats and dogs and cleaning the kennels. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

LOW-COST SPAY/NEUTER TRANSPORT | Gary

Dog and cat owners looking to get their pets fixed can take advantage of a transport program offered by the South Suburban Humane Society in Glenwood, Ill. The program transports pets to the clinic from Gary on the second Wednesday of the month. The clinic offers special rates for low-income families and those receiving disability, Social Security, unemployment or other public aid. Other vaccinations and procedures are available the day of surgery.
