American Greyhound will host its 2nd annual "Winning Hearts, Not Races" charity auction at 5 p.m. Nov. 12 at Avalon Manor. The event will include a silent auction, champagne fountain, open bar, dinner and live auction. Reservations may be made online.
PANCAKE BREAKFAST | Whiting
Humane Society Calumet Area will host a pancake breakfast and Christmas shopping event 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 13 at St. John the Baptist School, 1844 Lincoln. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the shelter or at the event. Breakfast includes all-you-can-eat pancakes with toppings, sausage and beverage. Items also will be available for purchase.

ADOPTION PROMOTION | Westville
The Independent Cat Society is promoting the black cats and kittens at the shelter during October through its "Black Pearls of the Shelter" promotion. Any black cat or kitten is available for 1/3 off the regular adoption fee, which includes spay or neuter, current vaccines, flea treatment and nail clipping.
